ArtGalleryMural Projects

The Public Art Commission will be releasing a "call for proposoals" for several murals to be placed in the downtown area over the next 24 months.

The first will be related to the Voting Rights March of 1965 and placed at 121 Montgomery Street's exterior wall facing Lee Street.  This is a highly visible location for marchers who will re-enact the event in 2015 for the 50th anniversary of the original march.  The call will be released in early November.

If you would like to receive the "call" please email your contact information to mgolson@montgomeryal.gov

Other Ongoing Projects

National Voting Rights Trail Sculptures

The city has commissioned two sculptures to be placed along the last leg of the Selma to Montgomery Voting Rights Trail. The first will be installed in a plaza on the campus of St. Jude on the corner of Fairview Avenue and Oak Street. The second will be located in the 5-Points area round-about at Mobile and Montgomery Street.

 Downtown Green Spaces

The Public Art Commission and Department of Development are currently working on a large project with the Auburn University School of Landscape Architecture focusing on green and public spaces around downtown Montgomery. Public Art will be an integral part of these plans. As the students complete their studio projects we will post information on where plans can be viewed for public comment.
