The Public and Media Relations Office for the Montgomery Police Department is managed by Sgt. Denise Barnes. The office is located in Police Headquarters (320 N. Ripley St, Montgomery, AL 36104). In all matters of interest to the public, the Montgomery Police Department is committed to transparency and open communications emphasizing a balance between the citizen's right to know and the constitutional rights of the accused.
Media Releases
The Public Information Office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. During weekends, holidays and after hours, the Public Information Officer is on call for police emergencies once notified of a serious incident. Serious incidents include homicides, attempted homicides or shootings of more than one person in a single incident, police-related deadly force incidents, fatality crashes or any incident which constitutes a civil disturbance or disaster. During weekends, holidays and after hours, the Public Information Officer will not have information regarding routine arrests, crimes not resulting in serious or fatal injuries, or non-fatality vehicle crashes. In most cases routine arrests and other police-related incident reports are available 24 hours after the report is taken and may be obtained from the Police Desk located at 320 N. Ripley St., Montgomery, AL 36104.

The Montgomery Police Department Records Bureau is located at 320 N. Ripley St. in Montgomery. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The following fee schedule applies to producing copies of reports:

Public Records Requests
The Code of Alabama 1975, Section 36-12-40, states, "Every citizen has a right to inspect and take a copy of any public writing of this state, except as otherwise expressly provided by statute." It is the policy of the City of Montgomery to provide access to inspect and make copies available of open public records that are received or created in the normal course of the City’s business operations.
